2020 was no doubt a crazy year for everyone. Although the year will be viewed as a negative period for many people, i personally like to see it in a more positive light.
Besides Covid-19 having a big impact, I was going through many other things at the time that I kept quite silent. I became very lost as a person and was struggling to identify who I was. I ended up putting myself down a lot, blaming myself for failures, feeling scared and hopeless. This led to me having anxiety, insomnia and a loss of appetite for a while, which was very unlike me.
Due to lockdown, I was forced to face my challenges which was the best thing I ever did. Not only did I learn things about myself, but having all that free time allowed me to be patient with overcoming my emotions and changing my mentality.
These are a few things i learnt from 2020:
- Enjoy your life, enjoy the little moments.
- Don't take seeing and hugging your family/friends for granted.
- Love yourself, accept yourself and what you want to accomplish and who you want to be.
- Everything happens for a reason even if isn't clear in the moment.
- Those who are meant to stay in your life will stay, those who aren't simply won't. However, there is always a lesson to be learnt from those who don't.
- It's okay to speak up about mental health issues, it's okay to open up when you're feeling down.
- Writing thoughts and feelings has a bigger affect than you know.
- Maintain a positive attitude even when times are rough.
- It's okay to sometimes feel lost and unsure.
- It's okay to take your time to figure things out.
- People show what they want you to see on social media, don't compare your life to someone else's.
- You are beautiful and unique don't let someone else or yourself make you ever forget that.
- It's okay to not text someone back straight away or be on your phone all the time. Take some time out for yourself.
- Do whatever make you happy, whether its dancing, cooking or even just watching netflix and eating. If it makes you happy then do it.
- Don't try and wish bad on other poeple. Life is a boomerang what you give is what you get.
- Fight for what you believe in always.
- Love yourself first, so others can love you too and in return you can love them as well.
- Being genuinely nice to someone goes a long way
- Pray for those with negative thoughts and feeling, pray they learn compassion and self-love rather than teaching them a lesson by being just as bad as them
- Don't give to simply recieve, give because you want to out of the kindess of your heart
- Listen to music when you feel down it really does sometimes turn your day around
- There's nothing wrong with dressing up to feel good about yourself even when you have no where to go
- wake up and be grateful for all that you have
- Learn to take time out and listen to yourself and what you need
- You are never alone
